Why NetSuite Users Are Switching From
Celigo To Boomi

By: | Category: ERP

With the proliferation of applications and SaaS solutions available, eCommerce businesses need integration options to help connect their apps and provide across-the-board access to siloed data. Integrated platform as a service (iPaaS) options can deliver this cohesiveness to your company. Two of the most popular and widely used options by NetSuite customers are Celigo and Boomi.

Of the two, Boomi is a preferable option and is ranked significantly higher than Celigo by Gartner, Forester, and numerous other 3rd party analysts in their reports on the iPaaS market. When working with our customers, this is further as evidenced by the fact that we commonly see NetSuite eCommerce customers start with Celigo, and eventually switch to Boomi for NetSuite when they outgrow the capabilities offered. The reverse (replacing Boomi with Celigo) is almost never seen, mainly because Celigo does NOT provide the scaling capability that Boomi does. Boomi delivers pre-built solutions and connectors to over 200 applications and data sources, so you can continue building your business beyond your initial connection to NetSuite.

CELIGO: PROS AND CONS

NetSuite does recommend Celigo to some customers as an iPaaS option, based mainly on these three surface advantages:

  • Cost: Celigo is, at first glance, the cheaper option to start connecting applications.
  • Simplicity: Celigo delivers a “dummy-proof” point-to-point connector solution.
  • Integration: Using Celigo looks very easy for fast “out-of-the-box” integration.

However, Celigo users often get a few months in and realize they are working with a subpar solution:

  • Cost: Every NetSuite upsell requires a corresponding additional Celigo purchase.
  • Simplicity: Celigo’s Integration Apps limit data flows; mapping new data sets or building new integrations creates additional cost.
  • Integration: Celigo only integrate applications to/from NetSuite, leaving HR and other back-ends hanging.

BOOMI: THE SUPERIOR CHOICE

In contrast, Boomi is a lasting solution for eCommerce that will deliver a superior experience and results long-term. Choosing Boomi for NetSuite can be a final decision that won’t have to be revisited in six to nine months when it’s time to scale fast.

Cost:

While the initial objection many NetSuite customers have to Boomi is the initial cost outlay, Boomi is actually less expensive that Celigo over time. There are entry-level packages that shift NetSuite customers onto an enterprise-level platform at an affordable price, and Solution Accelerator bundles available at a significant discount on Boomi’s retail pricing. Customers also don’t have to deal with additional purchases to keep a hard-coded solution operable.

Simplicity:

While Boomi can appear more complex than Celigo on the surface, the Solution Accelerators are not point-to-point, but delivered on a Boomi’s AtomSphere platform. This allows NetSuite eCommerce customers to scale easily and accelerate business outcomes. Boomi’s platform utilizes the full capabilities of the SuiteTalk API and allows users to self-implement and make changes in the future if needed, to add custom fields to applications or create new mappings. (This is impossible with Celigo, as Celigo requires adoption of their ProServ team.)

Integration:

The initial solution chosen to manage the first integration for an eCommerce enterprise should be the same platform you standardize on for all other integrations, now and in the future. Buying point-to-point solutions has the drawback of creating new application sprawl that must be managed, creating the same problem of data silos and disparate systems that you were trying to solve with integration in the first place. While Boomi and Celigo both claim 2,500+ NetSuite customers on their respective platforms today, Boomi also has another 13,000+ that are integrating numerous other applications like HR, Exchange and even on-premises, custom databases.

CELIGO VS. BOOMI: A CLEAR WINNER EMERGES

Celigo’s Integrator.io platform received the lowest ranking from Gartner for an iPaaS platform in the entire industry. Gartner notes that Celigo’s Integrator.io lacks API management capabilities, and provides minimal support for EDI-based B2B, mobile app, IoT and big data/analytics integration. Celigo has also been evaluated as being among the lowest with regard to the overall experience with the vendor, value for money, and specialist, ad hoc and citizen developer uses.

Boomi, on the other hand, is ranked in the top right corner of Gartner’s magic quadrant and the results in the field speak for themselves.

Roughly 30% of Boomi’s NetSuite integration projects are Celigo “Rip and Replace” projects to replace Integration Apps or the entire Integrator.io platform due to lack of capabilities, inability to scale, or issues with customer support. NetSuite routinely recommends Boomi to eCommerce customers as a solution most likely to provide the integration options, scalability, and security required by enterprises.
