Citrix
Launches NFuse Elite - Industry's First Channel Ready Access Portal Server
Citrix Targets Portal Buyers Demanding Simple, Powerful Access and Quick
Time-to-Value. NFuse Elite Includes Syndicated Content Through Deal with
ScreamingMedia
NEW YORK- June 3, 2002 - Citrix Systems,
Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS), a global leader in virtual workplace software and
services, today announced the details of general availability and pricing
for Citrix® NFuse® Elite, its highly anticipated access portal
server. NFuse Elite, which gives customers access to the information and
applications they need to do their jobs in a quick-to-deploy, cost-effective
solution, can be ordered through all NFuse Elite certified members of
Citrix's channel organization of over 7,000 value-added resellers, systems
integrators, independent software vendors (ISVs) and distributors. As
the industry's first simple, powerful access portal, NFuse Elite gives
users secure, point-and-click access to their own personalized set of
applications and content - while administrators get the ease and convenience
of centralized portal management.
NFuse Elite will retail for $67 per named user,
inclusive of Citrix Subscription Advantage, an annual plan that
provides customers with automatic delivery of software upgrades, enhancements
and maintenance releases, as well as priority access to important Citrix
technology information and customer service news.
"My goal as CTO is to help people use information
and information systems more effectively and effortlessly," said
Darren Dworkin, chief technology officer, Boston Medical Center. "After
evaluating NFuse Elite, I think Citrix will make it easier for me to achieve
this goal. By providing a simple, yet powerful framework for integrating
clinical data, Web applications and services, and client-server applications,
NFuse Elite has the makings to be our next generation clinician desktop
- one that provides the access and security our users demand."
With simple, wizard-driven installation and pre-configured
roles, themes and templates, NFuse Elite will deliver on the promise of
an "out-of-the box" access portal. After evaluating the NFuse
Elite technology preview for the past four weeks, Richard Schroeder, vice
president, Consulting Services for Vector ESP, noted, "NFuse Elite
is the easiest portal server we have ever deployed."
Schroeder added, "To date, best-of-breed portal
products have imposed implementation complexities and pricing models which
impeded Vector's recommended approach: start small, gain incremental value,
then accelerate. I think Vector customers are going to find NFuse Elite
to be a breakthrough product."
In related news, Citrix and ScreamingMedia announced
that the two companies have signed an agreement to include ScreamingMedia's
syndicated content within the NFuse Elite access portal, giving customers
their first year of service at no charge - a first for the portal industry.
(See related release, "Citrix and ScreamingMedia Sign Portal Content
Deal.")
Beyond ScreamingMedia, Citrix has established and
will continue to form alliances with leading software vendors whose products
add plug-in functionality to NFuse Elite. Initial alliances have been
formed with vendors providing content management, collaboration and syndicated
content, including Bantu, Documentum, eRoom, SiteScape and Stellent.
"NFuse Elite is a powerful access portal for
organizations looking to provide a Web-based front-end for business to
employee computing resources. It effectively opens up access to UNIX,
Java, the Web, and the full range of Windows applications," said
Bill Peterson, director, Portals and Content Management for Hurwitz Group.
"Citrix has taken a very intelligent approach to its entry into the
portal market by targeting its large installed base and organizations
looking to implement an access portal for business to employee computing
running on the major application platforms - two very large and diverse
target opportunities that should propel NFuse Elite to success."
Simple, Powerful Access
NFuse Elite is suited for a wide range of customer deployments, especially
the small and medium-sized businesses, or departments of large enterprises.
The product's XML-based architecture and support for industry standards-based
integration mechanisms, such as Microsoft® WebParts and Web Forms
(a Microsoft.NET technology), gives customers and partners the ability
to extend and scale NFuse Elite as organizational needs evolve and user
populations grow. (For more information on specific features and functionality,
see related release, "Citrix Highlights NFuse Elite's Features and
Functionality.")
"With over 5,000 customer downloads of the
technical preview, there's clearly pent-up customer demand for a powerful,
browser-based workspace that delivers rapid time-to-value and compelling
access capabilities," said Bob Kruger, senior vice president of development
and chief technology officer for Citrix. "The benefits of NFuse Elite
are clear: increased productivity for users and administrators, more efficient
use of IT resources, and a rapid return on investment. We believe that
the combination of a feature rich access portal and an attractive price
point will propel Citrix and NFuse Elite to the forefront of the portal
market."
